Obama got the suit dismissed. • In another case, Obama appeared on behalf of a nonprofit corporation that provided health care for poor people.
Taking your government career global
Federal Times – Apr 6, 2008
But the truth is that no matter where you are in your career, you have a great chance to go global in government, if you want to. Contrary to popular belief, there are no hard-and-fast prerequisites for kicking off an overseas career. According to hiring managers, virtually every profession has international applications. So no matter what you do, you could probably do it overseas… interests with foreign governments and organizations, and manage embassies and consulates. Seeking adaptable generalists who represent a cross section of America as FSOs, State does not require foreign language fluency, previous overseas experience or certain types of degrees from applicants. Rather it evaluates all aspects of applicants’ backgrounds and welcomes applications from job-seekers from all ethnic backgrounds and walks of life and all ages up to 60 — including recent graduates, stay-at-home parents returning to work and current feds, said Marianne Myles, director of the State Department’s Office of Recruitment, Examination and Employment. The Foreign Service has four branches comprising employees from State, the Agency for International Development, Agriculture Department and Commerce Department’s International Trade Administration. Although entry into the Foreign Service is extremely competitive, the notoriously difficult Foreign Service Officer Test is required only of applicants for FSO jobs in the State Department’s branch of the Foreign Service. Also applicants for jobs as State’s Foreign Service specialists do not have to take the Foreign Service Officer Test. These specialists work in various technical, medical, security and administrative fields.
