Here’s a transcript of the chat. Many soon-to-be graduates and internship seekers are searching for ways to protect themselves from being jobless or getting their career off on the… How true is that? Does it have to do with the elections? Would it be better to delay my graduation until December?TrudyNYU: No one really knows how long the downward trend in the economy will last. From my experience with past recessions, I think October is very optimistic. If you delay your graduation, it may provide you with more time to secure employment, which can be more challenging for an international student. Just one week ago, we had one of our largest career fairs to date, which indicates that recruiters are absolutely showing a strong interest in our students. TrudyNYU: Many of us at NYU and Stern have been projecting that the economy would be slowing down this year. To make sure that our students had opportunities for internships and other types of job programs, we aggressively targeted employers that were somewhat recession-proof.

"Boss" shouldn’t be confused with "friend. " When Michael said he wants his employees to think of him as "a friend first and a boss second, and probably an entertainer third," these were not the musings of a great manager. It sounds nice but it doesn’t work—try firing a friend or telling your friends that you’ve slashed their employment benefits. Yes, Michael has had a few heart-to-hearts that may have temporarily helped his employees, but it’s unlikely to have increased their performance or their loyalty to the company. Don’t be too weird at work… Pam is a great artist, so what’s she doing as a receptionist at a paper company? It’s hard for most of us to believe that we can follow our passions and actually get paid for it, but it is possible. Do your homework: Look at various careers and positions that would allow you to somehow use your interest or hobby. org for a skill-based job search. Try to do some related work part time so you can explore if it’s really for you. Also, join an association in the industry that interests you.

According to the research firm, more than 60% of 25- to 34-year-old job seekers rely on the Internet to find employment information,
making career sites the second most common source of new hires for large companies. Forrester expects that popularity to increase
as Generation X and Y employees begin to comprise a larger percentage of the total workforce. Yet the study showed that job
seekers can expect poor performance from career sites across the board. “Ten of the 12 sites reviewed scored below zero,” the report reads. A passing score on all 25 criteria Forrester examines
would be a +25 or higher, with a score range of between -50 and +50.
