That number was 18,276 during the same time period in 2007, a 132% increase. The average annual number for the past two years was between 75,000 – 80,000. •For October 2008, 15,401 accessed services, up from 6,501 during October 2007.

He added, “More employers are needed to step up and not only help the city of Indianapolis, but to give these individuals an opportunity to start a career that will help not only themselves, but their families as well. “Ex-offender Jeremy Justus said, “I thought it was great to see the companies that were there willing to hire a guy like me, some were offering jobs same day which was what I needed. “The City is also coordinating efforts with two other programs for ex-offenders offered by Workforce Inc and Second Chances. The City has also made the re-entry effort attractive to businesses that employ and retrain ex-offenders by passing an ordinance in September that gives vendors preference points when bidding on city contracts. City legal is now working on the language to implement the ordinance.
