Many who see the rising unemployment rate fear for their own job security. While it’s understandable to be concerned about employment there are steps workers can take to help them be more indispensable and “recession-proof” their career. Randy Wolf regional vice president of Robert Half International a staffing company in Chicago recently answered questions for The Times about how to keep your current job or look for a new job if you’ve been laid off. How should an individual worried about layoffs handle himself or herself at work?A. Doing something is always better than doing nothing if you’re worried about a layoff.

In fact she tells prospective employers “if it’s not good for your business then don’t do it. “Career Solutions is one of several “supported employment” operations in the Louisville area serving people who “need a little bit extra help gaining employment” including veterans those just released from prison and individuals with disabilities.

Galan: How difficult is it to enroll in college after you have been out of education for many years? Peterman: We understand that returning to school can be a traumatic experience for some. As such we treat our students as adults first and do our very best to make the process as comfortable and easy as possible. Galan: Do you have employment assistance services after graduation such as resume building and job placement? Peterman: Yes we offer these services. However we don’t have a big request for these types of services as many of our students already have jobs—they are just looking to improve their skill set or make themselves more competitive in their market.
