And only two of the 20 industry categories showed increases in online job availability and one of the 23 job categories recorded a rise in December.

Thousands of college students and recent graduates like McLeod attended an annual career fair at Rutgers University to shake hands hand out resumes collect business cards and try to keep their hopes high that one of their meetings might open a door launching their career or at least landing them a job. “It’s extremely difficult” said McLeod a tall dark-haired science major from Mays Landing who finished his classes at Rutgers in July. “I’ve been searching all over for a position. I hate to be pessimistic but I feel like I was sold a dream in high school that if I went to college and graduated I was going to find a job. “This is a big wake-up call” he said.
