Two weeks ago as the computer network manager was getting ready for another day at the office he received a life-changing phone call: the Rhode Island-based manufacturer of lighters and jewelry teetering on the brink of receivership had shut down without notice. After 34 years on the job DaRosa was suddenly unemployed with no severance to ease the transition. DaRosa relayed his story – one that is becoming increasingly common – last week during a session of the recently resurrected Employment Support Group. Meetings held at Norton’s Trinitarian Congregational Church each Tuesday morning give job seekers an opportunity to share experiences network and hone their skills. The group was established in 1992 as part of the church’s outreach efforts but hadn’t met for several years. “I have never been laid off” DaRosa told the group last week. “And I was not prepared for it.
