Career Planning Workshop begins Tommow at the Mystic & Noank Library

Career Planning Workshop to Assist Unemployed and Underemployed Individuals The Mystic and Noank Library will offer a free series of four career education workshops to assist individuals in the community to find employment. The group will meet for two hours every week for four consecutive weeks and will learn the process of career education: self-assessment research of career options and job search skills (resume writing interviewing techniques. ) Classes will be held the library 40 Library Street Mystic every Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM starting June 30th for 4 Class size is limited and registration is required. Many people use library computers to take online course so that they can obtain better employment. Libraries offer databases that lend access to business information news employment trends and more that allow people to make informed decisions about careers starting a business health care education etc. Libraries also offer amazing career information and services. Just look at Cuyahoga Public Library’s Career Center. Portsmouth and southeastern hioans helped put you in the governor’s office. Yet Portsmouth does not even have a local employment office.

The biggest objection I hear is “I’m too old and I’ve been out of school too long. To that I can only reply: “I’ve been there and you can do it. ” After a military career left me with fewer employment options than I’d anticipated I returned to school as a 38-year-old — scared to death I wouldn’t remember enough to pass worried that sacrificing the next few years would place too much of a strain on my family. I learned quickly — and I’ve had this reinforced as an instructor here at AC — that older students typically perform at a higher rate than the younger ones. lder students can apply classroom and book materials to real-life situations making it easier to understand. Younger students don’t have the luxury of that experience. lder students also have more motivation i.
