“It will be a waste if there were some armed forces retirees who find new jobs that is not relevant to the trade that they learned during the transition period”What is the use of picking up a new trade if they choose to end up as taxi drivers or “jaga?” said the Director-General of Perhebat Hassan Jantan during an interview recently. TRANSITIN TRAININGAs an organisation that advocates the welfare of former armed forces members Perhebat since 2004 has been providing transition training for members of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) before they end their service. The transition training helps the servicemen to enhance their skills and makes them more marketable in the employment market. Perhebat ensures that they are given the best training and thus a comprehensive training module has been prepared and managed by Perhebat’s Research and Curriculum Development Division with the cooperation of ATM Skills Development Department (JPK) and experts from the respective industries. “Those participating can choose a training programme that they find suitable and it can be a six-month or 18-month programme or take up a diploma that will be offered soon” said Hassan. Perhebat trainees are also exposed to assignments based on the National ccupational Skill Standard(NSS) a standard module used by training centres all over the nation. The courses include engineering management and services he said.
