"An employer can see you are conversant on a number of different topics even if they aren’t listed on your r?m?quot; she said. But be selective about what you put out there advises Palmer. "Those are not the places to gripe" she cautioned. "You don’t want to give a negative impression on yourself" she said.

For those who choose one of the top-three recommended fields there should be ample job opportunities regardless of the economy’s health. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that computer scientist will be one of the fastest growing occupations over the next decade. Employment among computer and information scientists is expected to grow 22 percent between 2006 and 2016. The number of network systems and data communications analysis is forecast to increase 53 percent. Meanwhile the health care sector is expected to add three million new wage and salary jobs by 2016 more than any other industry. This growth is spurred in part by the huge population of baby boomers who require more and more health care services as they age. Employment in the engineering sector is expected to grow 11 percent by 2016 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
